The Central Park Conservancy is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to maintaining and restoring New York City’s Central Park. Central Park is a tremendous greenspace for those living in New York City as well as visitors and tourists, and includes over 840 acres of land, 26 baseball fields, seven bodies of water, and 58 miles of pathways. Central Park Conservancy organizes a variety of tours, events, and programs for millions of visitors every year. As part of its group activities, the Central Park Conservancy currently offers free virtual field trips for school students grades 4-12. The 45-minute virtual trips are available from Tuesday to Friday for a maximum of 30 students. Teachers have the option of supplementing the field trip with a post-program activity hosted by the Central Park Conservancy. Held on Zoom or Google Meets, the virtual tours currently offered include Discover Seneca Village, Designing Central Park, and Central Park’s Systems. Discover Seneca Village is an exploration of the African American community which preceded the construction of Central Park. Designing Central Park details the competition held to select a blueprint for the park’s design, as well as the evolution of the park over time. Central Park’s Systems is the only virtual field trip specifically targeting grades 9-12. It covers the history of Central Park Conservancy and the restoration challenges the group faced during the early years of Central Park’s restoration.
